PORTRAITS FROM AN ISLAND
Nigel Shafran is a British photographer and artist. His work has been exhibited at Tate and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
His career started in fashion photography in New York during the 1980s, but then he realised that fashion was not what he wanted to pursue, because of the aspirational values it promotes, suggesting people shouldn't be happy with what they have.
“My work is about a build-up of images, often in sequences. There is a connection between them all. Basically, I’m a one-trick pony: it's all life and death and that's it.”
